We are recruiting a Locum Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist to join a specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service in Ireland.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role within a specialist multidisciplinary Eating Disorder (ED) service, providing high-quality care for children and adolescents with moderate to severe eating disorders. The service follows Ireland's national stepped model of care, delivering comprehensive outpatient, day patient and inpatient support while working closely with community CAMHS teams, acute hospitals and primary care.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide consultant leadership within a specialist Child & Adolescent Eating Disorder Service.
• Deliver specialist assessment, diagnosis and treatment for children and adolescents presenting with moderate to severe eating disorders.
• Lead multidisciplinary assessments and develop comprehensive, evidence-based treatment plans.
• Undertake psychiatric assessments, mental state examinations and risk assessments.
• Diagnose eating disorders using DSM-5 and ICD-11 criteria.
• Manage complex psychiatric presentations and associated comorbidities.
• Deliver evidence-based treatments including Family-Based Therapy (FBT), CBT-E and other recognised therapeutic approaches.
• Provide consultation and advice to Community CAMHS teams, primary care and inpatient services.
• Support rapid assessment pathways to minimise delays in treatment.
• Participate in outpatient clinics, intensive treatment programmes and inpatient consultation.
• Work closely with paediatric services, acute hospitals and other specialist teams.
• Provide leadership to a multidisciplinary team including psychologists, advanced nurse practitioners, dietitians, social workers and specialist nurses.
• Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews, clinical governance, audit and quality improvement initiatives.
• Support service development in line with the national Eating Disorder Model of Care.
• Supervise, teach and mentor junior medical staff and multidisciplinary colleagues.
• Participate in the CAMHS on-call rota.
• Promote collaborative working with patients, families and carers throughout the care pathway.

Person Specification

Essential

Qualifications

• Medical degree recognised by the Medical Council of Ireland.
• Registration as a Specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.
• Eligibility to practise as a Consultant Psychiatrist in Ireland.

Experience

• Significant experience in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.
• Strong experience managing complex child and adolescent mental health presentations.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary mental health teams.
• Experience in assessment and management of psychiatric emergencies.
• Strong clinical leadership and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to evidence-based clinical practice.
• Experience in clinical governance, audit and quality improvement.
• Commitment to teaching, supervision and continuing professional development.
• Ability to work collaboratively across community, acute and specialist services.
• Access to transport.
• Willingness to participate in the CAMHS on-call rota.
