We are recruiting on behalf of a leading NHS organisation in the East of England for several substantive Consultant Histopathologist positions.

These posts offer the opportunity to join a large, collaborative department of more than 30 Consultant Histopathologists working within an oligo-specialist model, allowing consultants to develop expertise across two or three subspecialty areas. The department promotes flexible and personalised working patterns while supporting career progression, research, education and service development.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Report a broad range of surgical histopathology specimens.
  • Develop and maintain expertise in two or more pathology subspecialties.
  • Contribute to Paediatric/Perinatal, Dermatopathology, Gastrointestinal or other specialist services where appropriate.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Support clinical governance, quality assurance and audit programmes.
  • Contribute to service improvement and departmental development.
  • Supervise and train pathology trainees and laboratory staff.
  • Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
  • Engage in clinical research and academic activities where appropriate.
  • Maintain high standards of diagnostic accuracy and patient care.
  • Work collaboratively across multiple laboratory sites where required.


Person Specification

Essential

Qualifications

  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise.
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Histopathology, or eligibility within six months of interview.
  • CCT (or within six months of completion) or equivalent overseas specialist qualification.
  • FRCPath or equivalent qualification.

Experience

  • Comprehensive training in Histopathology equivalent to UK specialist training.
  • Ability to work independently within a consultant-led histopathology service.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary clinical teams.
  • Commitment to developing an appropriate pathology subspecialty.

Clinical & Professional Skills

  • Excellent diagnostic histopathology knowledge.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workload effectively.
  • Commitment to clinical governance, audit and quality improvement.
  • Enthusiasm for teaching, mentoring and service development.
  • Commitment to continuing professional development and appraisal.
  • Flexible approach to working across multiple sites.

Desirable

Qualifications

  • Qualification or fellowship in Paediatric/Perinatal Pathology.

Experience

  • Experience in Paediatric/Perinatal Pathology.
  • Specialist interest in Dermatopathology.
  • Specialist interest in Gastrointestinal Pathology.
  • Previous involvement in service improvement initiatives.
  • Management experience.
  • Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience.
  • Experience mentoring laboratory staff and trainees.
  • Research experience, publications or academic involvement.
  • Experience with digital pathology and modern laboratory reporting systems.
