An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult / Older Adult Inpatient Psychiatry to join a well-established inpatient mental health service in North West England.This is a substantive 10 PA Consultant post within an inpatient setting, offering the opportunity to work in a mixed general adult ward environment with close links to older adult services. The successful candidate will join a supportive multidisciplinary team and play a central role in delivering high-quality inpatient psychiatric care, clinical leadership, teaching, and service development within a large integrated mental health organisation.
The post also attracts a £40,000 Recruitment & Retention Premia, payable at the commencement of employment, subject to eligibility criteria.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
The Consultant Psychiatrist will:- Provide senior medical leadership to an 18-bedded mixed gender inpatient ward
- Deliver consultant-led psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and risk management for adults with acute and complex mental health needs
- Take responsibility for inpatient reviews, formulation of management plans, Mental Health Act work, multidisciplinary decision-making, and safe discharge planning
- Work closely with the wider inpatient and hospital-based mental health team to support high-quality inpatient care
- Participate in the Consultant on-call rota, with additional remuneration payable
- Supervise junior medical staff and support resident doctors working on the ward
- Contribute to teaching, training, clinical governance, audit, and wider service development across the locality

Person Specification
Requirements
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent
- Full GMC registration with Licence to Practise
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register or being within 6 months of entry
- Section 12 approval or be within 3 months of obtaining it
- Approved Clinician status or be within 3 months of obtaining it
- Knowledge, skills and experience relevant to a Consultant Psychiatrist in an inpatient role
