Emergency Medicine - Registrar
Apply nowAn exciting opportunity has arisen for Emergency Medicine Registrars to join busy Emergency Departments across Ireland in flexible, non-contract locum positions. These roles offer excellent exposure to acute and emergency care within dynamic multidisciplinary teams, with opportunities for ongoing locum bookings and flexible shift patterns including days, nights, and weekends.
The successful candidates will work within fast-paced Emergency Departments, managing a broad range of acute medical, surgical, and trauma presentations while delivering high-quality patient-centred care with appropriate senior support.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
The Emergency Medicine Registrar will:
• Assess, diagnose, and manage acutely unwell patients presenting to the Emergency Department• Provide timely clinical decision-making in emergency and acute care settings
• Prioritise patients using triage principles and escalate care appropriately
• Initiate investigations including blood tests, imaging, ECGs, and other diagnostic procedures
• Develop and implement treatment plans in line with hospital and HSE protocols
• Perform emergency procedures within the scope of competence
• Work collaboratively with Consultants, nursing staff, and allied health professionals
• Participate in clinical handovers and departmental workflow management
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
• Contribute to patient safety, clinical governance, and quality improvement standards
• Participate in day, night, weekend, and short-notice locum shifts as required
Service Overview
The Emergency Departments provide acute assessment and management for a wide variety of presentations, including:
• Medical emergencies• Surgical emergencies
• Trauma cases
• Acute respiratory conditions
• Cardiac emergencies
• Neurological presentations
• Sepsis management
• Paediatric emergency presentations
• Mental health and crisis presentations
Registrars will work as part of experienced multidisciplinary teams in high-volume Emergency Departments with access to senior clinical support and specialist referral pathways.
Person Specification
Requirements
Essential
• IMC Registration or eligibility for registration• Experience working at Registrar level in Emergency Medicine
• Previous experience in Irish or UK Emergency Departments
• Strong clinical decision-making and acute care skills
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced clinical environment
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• ALS certification
• ATLS certification
• Flexibility to cover ad-hoc and short-notice shifts
Desirable
• Experience managing high-acuity Emergency Department presentations• Additional Emergency Medicine certifications or training
• Experience in trauma and resuscitation management
• Interest in ongoing Emergency Medicine development and education
