Dermatology - Consultant
Apply nowAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Dermatologist to join a well-established and high-performing Dermatology service in the Northern Ireland.
The successful candidate will contribute to a comprehensive dermatology service covering outpatient care, skin surgery, and specialist clinics within a large, multidisciplinary department that delivers both secondary and tertiary services.
This role offers the opportunity to work within a research-active environment with strong teaching commitments and access to specialist clinics, including skin cancer, paediatric dermatology, and biologics services.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver and maintain the highest standards of clinical care in Dermatology services.
- Provide comprehensive dermatology care, including diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of skin conditions.
- Undertake general dermatology clinics and skin surgery procedures.
- Share responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Dermatology department.
- Supervise and support junior doctors, trainees, and medical students.
- Participate in teaching, training, and continuous professional development activities.
- Engage in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to research activities, including participation in NIHR portfolio studies.
- Provide cross-cover for consultant colleagues during periods of leave.
- Ensure compliance with GMC guidelines and professional standards.
Service Overview

Large and well-established Dermatology department, providing services across a wide geographical area with a substantial patient population.
- High-volume Dermatology service delivering comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care.
- Specialist services include:
- Skin cancer and two-week wait clinics
- Paediatric dermatology clinics
- Biologics services
- Patch testing and contact dermatitis services
- Phototherapy services
- Combined speciality clinics, including dermatology–rheumatology collaboration
- Strong multidisciplinary team consisting of Consultants, Specialty Doctors, Registrars, Specialist Nurses, and Allied Health Professionals.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Registration
Essential
- MBBS/MBChB or equivalent
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
- MRCP
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register (or within 6 months of CCT)
Clinical Experience
Essential
- Experience in UK Dermatology departments
- Technical competence in General Dermatology and Skin Surgery
- Experience in paediatric dermatology and/or surgical dermatology
- Ability to manage patients independently and provide expert clinical opinion
- Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Desirable
- Community dermatology clinic experience
Skills & Competencies
Essential
- Strong diagnostic and clinical management skills in dermatology
- Ability to manage outpatient workloads and procedural lists
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to prioritise and manage a busy caseload
- Commitment to patient-centred care and safety
Teaching, Audit & Research

- Experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees
