Apply nowAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Geriatrician to join a dynamic and expanding Older Persons Medicine service in Northern Ireland.
This Consultant post has been developed to strengthen inpatient Care of the Elderly services and further enhance Acute Frailty and Acute Care at Home pathways. The successful candidate will join a collaborative, progressive, multidisciplinary department that delivers high-quality, patient-centred care for older adults across acute, frailty, rehabilitation, and community settings.
The role offers opportunities to contribute to service development, frailty innovation, orthogeriatrics, education, governance, and multidisciplinary leadership within a well-established Geriatric Medicine department.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
The Consultant Geriatrician will:
• Provide consultant-led care for older adults across inpatient and frailty services
• Deliver specialist assessment and management of frail older patients
• Support Acute Frailty services within Emergency Care pathways
• Participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds and frailty reviews
• Lead and supervise junior doctors and multidisciplinary teams
• Support development of Acute Care at Home and Frailty pathways
• Contribute to Orthogeriatrics service support and succession planning
• Participate in service development, quality improvement, and governance initiatives
• Support education, teaching, supervision, and appraisal activities
• Participate in weekend frailty and virtual ward rotas
• Maintain excellent communication with inpatient, emergency, and community teams

Person Specification
Requirements
Essential
• Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise
• MRCP or equivalent qualification
• GMC Specialist Register in Geriatric Medicine or within 6 months of CCT
• Minimum 1 year NHS experience
• Specialised training in Geriatric Medicine
• Wider General Medicine experience
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• Evidence of multidisciplinary team working
• Understanding of Clinical Governance
• Evidence of clinical audit participation
• Ability to deliver high-quality patient-centred care
Desirable
• MD, PhD or higher postgraduate qualification
• Experience in Orthogeriatrics
• Teaching and educational supervision experience
• Research and publication experience
• Leadership and service development involvement
• Interest in Frailty, Community Geriatrics, Falls or Rehabilitation Medicine
