An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Urologist to join a well-established and expanding Urology service in Northern Ireland.

This Consultant post offers the opportunity to provide comprehensive adult urological services alongside paediatric outpatient and minor day-case urology services within a modern and progressive surgical department.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative, multidisciplinary Urology team that delivers elective, emergency, outpatient, and surgical urological care while contributing to service development, governance, education, and regional specialist pathways.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

The Consultant Urologist will:

• Provide consultant-led assessment and management of urological patients
• Deliver elective and emergency Urology services
• Perform outpatient and inpatient urological procedures
• Participate in a 1:7 consultant on-call rota
• Manage complex urological conditions and surgical pathways
• Deliver general urology services across elective and emergency care
• Contribute to uro-oncology and endo-urology services
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and surgical planning
• Support outpatient diagnostic and treatment services
• Supervise junior medical staff and trainees
• Participate in governance, audit, and patient safety activities
• Contribute to service redesign and development initiatives
• Support undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
• Work collaboratively with specialist nursing and allied health teams
• Participate in appraisal, CPD, and clinical governance programmes

Person Specification

Requirements

Essential

• Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise
• FRCS (Urology) or equivalent qualification
• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Urology or within 6 months of CCT/CESR
• Minimum 1 year NHS experience
• Extensive experience in elective and emergency Urology
• Experience in multidisciplinary team working
• Strong clinical leadership and communication skills
• Experience in governance and audit activities
• Commitment to teaching and training
• Ability to work flexibly within a collaborative surgical team

Desirable

• Higher postgraduate qualification (MD, MCh or equivalent)
• Interest in uro-oncology
• Interest in endo-urology and stone disease
• Experience in bladder outflow surgery
• Experience in female and reconstructive urology
• Research and publication experience
• Formal teaching or educational training
• Management or leadership experience
• ATLS certification
