An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Gastroenterologist to join a modern multidisciplinary medical service in Northern Ireland.

This Consultant post offers the opportunity to provide high-quality Gastroenterology and Endoscopy services within a well-supported clinical environment focused on excellent patient care, efficient pathways, and modern endoscopic practice.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative multidisciplinary team delivering specialist gastrointestinal care to both NHS and private patients while contributing to service development, governance, education, and clinical leadership.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

The Consultant Gastroenterologist will:

• Provide consultant-led Gastroenterology assessment and treatment
• Deliver high-quality gastrointestinal outpatient services
• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures
• Deliver day-case gastroscopy and colonoscopy services
• Manage patients requiring gastrointestinal investigations and treatment
• Lead and support multidisciplinary clinical teams
• Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement activities
• Contribute to service development and pathway improvement
• Support safe, evidence-based patient care delivery
• Maintain high standards of endoscopic practice and patient outcomes
• Work collaboratively with nursing, anaesthetic, and theatre teams
• Support teaching and supervision where appropriate
• Participate in clinical reviews and patient safety initiatives
• Contribute to departmental leadership and operational efficiency

Person Specification

Requirements

Essential

• Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise
• Specialist Registration in Gastroenterology or eligibility within 6 months
• Minimum 1 year NHS experience
• Extensive experience in Gastroenterology and Endoscopy
• Ability to independently perform gastroscopy and colonoscopy procedures
• Strong clinical decision-making and patient management skills
• Excellent multidisciplinary team working ability
• Experience in clinical governance and audit
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• Commitment to high-quality patient care and service delivery

Desirable

• Experience within independent or private healthcare settings
• BUPA accreditation or willingness to obtain accreditation
• Interest in service development and innovation
