An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Oncologist to join a progressive Oncology service in the East of England.
The successful candidate will contribute to the continued delivery of high-quality oncological care while supporting service development, multidisciplinary collaboration, research activity, and innovation across cancer pathways.
Available specialist interests include:
- Medical Oncology – Breast & HPB
- Clinical Oncology – Breast & Colorectal
- Clinical Oncology – Lung & Upper GI
The appointee for the Lung & Upper GI role will:
- Lead Upper GI cancer oncology services
- Share responsibility for Lung Cancer and Mesothelioma services
- Support the expansion of immunotherapy and systemic anti-cancer treatments
- Enhance multidisciplinary cancer management pathways
- Increase recruitment into clinical trials and research programmes
Main Duties of the Role
Clinical Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Deliver Consultant-led oncology services across tumour-specific pathways
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings (MDTs)
- Manage systemic anti-cancer therapies, including chemotherapy and immunotherapy
- Support Acute Oncology services and inpatient oncology care
- Contribute to radiotherapy planning and review clinics (where applicable)
- Provide leadership in oncology service delivery and pathway development
- Participate in evidence-based treatment planning and service redesign

- Integrated Oncology, Haematology, and Palliative Care services
- Dedicated Cancer Care & Treatment Unit
- 12-chair Chemotherapy Suite
- Dedicated oncology inpatient ward
- Cancer Wellbeing & Support Centre
- Acute Oncology Service (AOS)
- Specialist lung cancer CNS support
- Advanced radiotherapy access through regional cancer networks
Clinical exposure includes:

- Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) cancers

Research & Clinical Trials
The successful candidate will have opportunities to:
- Participate in active oncology clinical trials

- Engage in academic collaborations and oncology teaching programmes

Person specification
Requirements
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- MRCP Part 1 and Part 2
- FRCR
- Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT/CESR
- Clinical training equivalent to UK CCT in Clinical Oncology
- Wide experience in:
- Chemotherapy prescribing
- E-prescribing systems
- Acute Oncology
- Minimum 1 year NHS experience
- Strong MDT and communication skills
- Ability to work within complex oncology pathways
Desirable
- Advanced communication skills training
- Research or postgraduate thesis experience
- Clinical trials involvement
- Leadership and service development experience
- Interest in academic oncology and innovation
