An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Speciality Doctor in Anaesthetics to join a large, well-established and highly regarded anaesthetic department in Scotland.
This role offers exposure to a broad spectrum of surgical specialities, strong teaching and research opportunities, and flexibility to develop subspecialty interests within a supportive environment.
The department is one of the largest in the UK, providing comprehensive anaesthetic services across multiple sites and specialities.

Main Duties of the Job
Clinical Responsibilities
- Deliver safe and effective anaesthetic care across:
- General Surgery
- Orthopaedics & Trauma
- Gynaecology & Urology
- Paediatrics & Obstetrics
- Participate in theatre lists and perioperative care
- Manage elective and emergency cases
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation
On-Call Commitments
- 1 in 8 weekend daytime on-call rota
- Resident on-call duties covering:
- General anaesthesia
- Maternity services
- Participation in out-of-hours emergency care
Teaching & Development
- Engage in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
- Participate in:
- Clinical audit
- Quality improvement
- Departmental education programmes
- Opportunity to contribute to research initiatives and academic collaborations
Person Specification
Requirements
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent qualification
- Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise
- Minimum 1 year NHS experience
- At least 4 years postgraduate training (including anaesthesia experience)
- Competence in managing ASA 1–3 patients independently
- Strong understanding of perioperative care
Desirable
- FRCA or equivalent qualification
- Experience in subspecialties such as:
- Obstetric anaesthesia
- Paediatric anaesthesia
- Critical care
- Life support certifications (ALS / ATLS / APLS)
