An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Speciality Doctor in Anaesthetics to join a large, well-established and highly regarded anaesthetic department in Scotland.

This role offers exposure to a broad spectrum of surgical specialities, strong teaching and research opportunities, and flexibility to develop subspecialty interests within a supportive environment.

The department is one of the largest in the UK, providing comprehensive anaesthetic services across multiple sites and specialities.

Main Duties of the Job

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe and effective anaesthetic care across:
    • General Surgery
    • Orthopaedics & Trauma
    • Gynaecology & Urology
    • Paediatrics & Obstetrics
  • Participate in theatre lists and perioperative care
  • Manage elective and emergency cases
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation

On-Call Commitments

  • 1 in 8 weekend daytime on-call rota
  • Resident on-call duties covering:
    • General anaesthesia
    • Maternity services
  • Participation in out-of-hours emergency care

Teaching & Development

  • Engage in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
  • Participate in:
    • Clinical audit
    • Quality improvement
    • Departmental education programmes
  • Opportunity to contribute to research initiatives and academic collaborations

Person Specification

Requirements

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent qualification
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise
  • Minimum 1 year NHS experience
  • At least 4 years postgraduate training (including anaesthesia experience)
  • Competence in managing ASA 1–3 patients independently
  • Strong understanding of perioperative care

Desirable

  • FRCA or equivalent qualification
  • Experience in subspecialties such as:
    • Obstetric anaesthesia
    • Paediatric anaesthesia
    • Critical care
  • Life support certifications (ALS / ATLS / APLS)
