An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Emergency Department Registrar to join a busy, well-supported Emergency Department in Australia.
This role is ideal for doctors seeking broad Emergency Medicine exposure within a high-performing regional service that offers excellent supervision, strong consultant presence, structured teaching, and significant hands-on clinical experience.
The Emergency Department manages a wide variety of presentations, including trauma, paediatrics, mental health crises, acute medical emergencies, and critical care cases.
Main Duties of the Job
Clinical Responsibilities
- Assess, investigate, and manage emergency presentations across all age groups.
- Deliver safe and timely emergency care under consultant supervision.
- Participate in trauma calls, resuscitations, and critical care management.
- Manage acute medical, surgical, paediatric, and psychiatric emergencies.
- Perform emergency procedures appropriate to the registrar level.
- Coordinate referrals, admissions, transfers, and discharge planning.
Emergency Department Duties
- Participate in shift-based rota including days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
- Respond rapidly to deteriorating patients.
- Support patient flow and departmental efficiency.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
Teaching / Development
- Participate in registrar teaching programmes and simulation training.
- Engage in audit, morbidity & mortality meetings, and governance activities.
- Support junior colleagues and medical students where appropriate.
- Excellent role for doctors pursuing specialist training in Emergency Medicine.
Multidisciplinary Working
- Work closely with consultants, nursing teams, ICU, anaesthetics, surgical teams, paediatrics, and retrieval services.
Person Specification
Requirements
Essential
- MBBS / MBChB or equivalent medical degree
- Registration eligible with AHPRA (General / Provisional / Limited)
- Minimum 1 year NHS experience
- Minimum 2 years postgraduate clinical experience
- At least 6 months of Emergency Medicine experience
- ALS / Advanced Life Support certification
- Strong acute clinical decision-making skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork ability
Desirable
- Previous Emergency Department Registrar experience
- Interest in the ACEM training pathway
- Trauma management experience
- Paediatric emergency experience
- Ultrasound / procedural skills
- Audit/teaching experience
- Rural or regional medicine exposure
