An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Histopathologist to join a high-performing Cellular Pathology service in Wales. This role is available on a substantive or locum basis. It offers the opportunity to work within one of the largest pathology networks in the region, delivering specialist diagnostic services and supporting the modern transformation of pathology.
The successful applicant will join an established team of 13 Consultants and contribute to diagnostic Histopathology, cytopathology, multidisciplinary cancer services, teaching, research, and service development. Applicants with 1 year of NHS experience are encouraged to apply.
Main Duties of the Job
- Provide Consultant-led Histopathology services for primary, secondary and specialist care referrals.
- Undertake diagnostic surgical pathology reporting across a broad case mix.
- Participate in cytopathology services.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings for cancer diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Optional participation in autopsy/coroner's post-mortem services.
- Work collaboratively with Consultant colleagues and laboratory teams to maintain high-quality diagnostic standards.
- Support governance, audit, quality assurance and accreditation processes.
- Participate in departmental planning, innovation and service modernisation.
- Supervise and train junior doctors, biomedical staff and students.
- Engage in appraisal, CPD, revalidation and job planning processes.
- Participate in the Consultant on-call rota (1:12 prospective cover).

Qualifications
Essential
- Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise
- GMC Specialist Register in Histopathology (or eligible within 6 months)
- CCT or equivalent training recognition
- FRCPath or equivalent qualification
Desirable
- Higher degree/diploma
- Teaching qualification or postgraduate medical education qualification
Experience
Essential
- Minimum 1 year NHS experience
- Previous NHS Histopathology experience
- Experience in diagnostic Histopathology reporting
- Evidence of multidisciplinary working
- Experience teaching undergraduate/postgraduate staff
- Experience in clinical audit and service improvement
- Strong collaboration with clinical and management teams
Desirable
- Research in Histopathology or autopsy practice
- Leadership/management involvement
- Improvement science or transformation projects
