An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Haematologist to join a well-established and progressive Haematology service in Wales. This is available on either a substantive or locum basis and offers the opportunity to work within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team committed to delivering high-quality patient care, education, innovation, and research.
The successful applicant will contribute to both general Haematology services and specialist clinical practice, while helping to modernise services and maintain excellence in training standards. Applicants with 1 year of NHS experience are encouraged to apply.
Main Duties of the Job
- Provide comprehensive Consultant-led Haematology services including prevention, diagnosis and treatment of haematological disorders.
- Participate in specialist sub-speciality clinics alongside general Haematology outpatient reviews.
- Share inpatient attending responsibility for Haematology ward patients.
- Participate in the Consultant Haematology on-call rota (currently 1 in 7 with prospective cover).
- Manage acute haematology admissions, urgent referrals and laboratory-generated abnormal results.
- Support the Haematology day unit activity and urgent clinical reviews.
- Work collaboratively with consultant colleagues, nursing staff, pharmacists and wider MDT teams.
- Supervise and train junior medical staff and trainees.
- Participate in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and risk management processes.
- Contribute to service development, innovation and performance targets.
- Maintain appraisal, revalidation and CPD requirements.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise
- FRCPath or equivalent
- On the GMC Specialist Register in Clinical Haematology or within 6 months of CCT
- Eligibility for specialist registration in the UK
Experience
Essential
- Minimum 1 year NHS experience
- Previous NHS clinical experience in Haematology
- Experience in outpatient and inpatient Haematology care
- Evidence of multidisciplinary working across all staff levels
- Experience in audit, governance and service improvement
- Experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate staff
- Research involvement in Haematology
Qualifications

- Higher degree, such as MD / PhD
