An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join a progressive and community-focused mental health service in New Zealand.

This role offers the chance to work within an innovative model of care that places strong emphasis on wh?nau-centred approaches, cultural understanding, and equitable healthcare delivery. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of modern mental health services, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to support individuals and families across the community.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and management for patients across General Adult and/or Older Persons Mental Health services.
  • Deliver care within a community-focused, wh?nau-centred model, incorporating culturally appropriate approaches to mental health.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including allied health professionals and community partners.
  • Contribute to service development, including designing and implementing new models of care.
  • Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support equitable healthcare delivery, with a focus on improving outcomes for diverse populations.
  • Engage with community stakeholders and support the co-design of care pathways.
  • Provide clinical leadership and contribute to team development and service planning.
  • Participate in teaching and supervision where required.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Registration

Essential

  • Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent).
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or equivalent.
  • Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) or eligibility for vocational registration in Psychiatry.

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in Psychiatry at a specialist level or equivalent.
  • Broad clinical experience in General Adult Psychiatry and/or Mental Health Services for Older People.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Minimum 1 year of NHS experience.

  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and community-based teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage complex and varied caseloads.
