An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Paediatrician to join a dynamic and collaborative paediatric service in New Zealand.

The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team delivering comprehensive paediatric care across inpatient, outpatient, neonatal, and community settings. This role offers a varied and rewarding scope of practice, including acute and chronic paediatric care, neonatal support, and community-based services, within a culturally diverse population.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive paediatric care across inpatient, outpatient, and community settings.
  • Manage a broad range of paediatric conditions, including neonates, acutely unwell children, chronic illnesses, and behavioural disorders.
  • Participate in the care of patients within a Level 2 Neonatal Unit, with access to tertiary support where required.
  • Contribute to acute paediatric services, including emergency care and management of complex presentations.
  • Participate in the on-call rota, including evenings and weekends, supporting continuous service delivery.
  • Work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary team to deliver holistic, patient- and wh?nau-centred care.
  • Engage in clinical governance, audit, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and allied health professionals.
  • Contribute to service development and improvement of paediatric services across the region.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Registration

Essential

  • Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent).
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent.
  • Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) or eligibility for registration.
  • Vocational registration as a Paediatrician or nearing completion of advanced training.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in general paediatrics, including acute and community-based care.
  • Experience managing neonates, acutely unwell children, and chronic paediatric conditions.
  • Ability to work in a high-risk, rural or resource-variable environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a collegial team structure.
  • Minimum 1 year of NHS experience.

Desirable

  • Experience working in peripheral or regional healthcare settings.

  • Strong clinical decision-making skills in paediatrics.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage a high and varied workload, including emergencies.
  • Effective teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
