An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Breast Radiologist to join a large, well-established and supportive Radiology department in the East Midlands.
This is a substantive, full-time position within a modern, multi-site imaging service that offers a full range of diagnostic modalities. The successful candidate will join a sizeable team of consultant radiologists and contribute to both subspecialty breast imaging and general radiology services.
The department is equipped with advanced imaging infrastructure, including multiple MRI and CT scanners, interventional suites, and community diagnostic centres. There is a strong emphasis on flexible working, with many consultants benefiting from remote reporting capabilities and balanced job plans.
This role is ideal for a radiologist with a strong interest in Breast Imaging, who is confident working independently and contributing to high-volume screening and symptomatic services.
Main Duties of the Job
The Consultant will deliver a comprehensive Breast Radiology service alongside general radiology responsibilities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide specialist breast imaging services, including:
- Screening and symptomatic mammography reporting
- Breast ultrasound and MRI reporting
- Image-guided procedures (biopsies, marker placement, vacuum biopsies)
- Independently manage Breast Unit (BU) clinics, including diagnostic and symptomatic cases
- Participate in Breast multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, including diagnostic and metastatic MDTs
- Contribute to breast oncology imaging and surgical planning
- Perform and supervise breast interventional radiology procedures
- Participate in general radiology reporting as part of departmental requirements
- Participate in the Radiology consultant on-call rota
- Provide clinical supervision and teaching to junior doctors and radiology trainees
- Contribute to audit, clinical governance and service development
- Support the expansion and delivery of imaging services across community diagnostic centres

Specialist Breast Imaging Requirements
The successful candidate should be able to:
- Independently report screening and symptomatic mammograms
- Perform ultrasound-guided biopsies and interventional procedures
- Undertake vacuum-assisted biopsies and marker placements
- Report breast MRI and contribute to complex case evaluation
- Participate in breast MDTs for both diagnostic and metastatic cases
- Contribute to at least 5 breast imaging sessions per week (flexible depending on service needs)
- Demonstrate experience in contrast-enhanced mammography or willingness to develop this skill
On-Call Commitment
- Participation in the Radiology consultant on-call rota
- On-call duties supported by a large cross-site radiology team and reporting radiographers

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent)
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
- FRCR or equivalent qualification
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Radiology or within 6 months of CCT
Desirable
- Higher postgraduate qualifications, such as an MD or a PhD
Experience
Essential
- Minimum 1 year NHS experience
- Clinical experience equivalent to UK CCT in Radiology
- Experience in Breast Imaging and General Radiology
- Ability to independently manage breast imaging and interventional procedures
- Experience participating in breast MDTs
Desirable
- Subspecialty experience in Breast and Gynaecological Imaging
- Experience in contrast-enhanced mammography
- Extended experience at Consultant level
