A fixed-term opportunity is available for a Consultant Radiologist to join a well-established Imaging department delivering comprehensive diagnostic services within a modern acute setting.
The role combines general radiology responsibilities with subspecialty interests, with strong MDT involvement and a collaborative multidisciplinary environment. While subspecialty expertise is welcomed, the post retains a significant commitment to general cross-sectional reporting and service provision.
Subspecialty interests welcomed include:
- General Cross-sectional Imaging
- Oncology Imaging
- GI / GU Imaging
- MSK Imaging
- Chest / Cardiac Imaging
- Non-vascular Interventional Radiology
Note:
- All subspecialty roles include a substantial general radiology and MDT component
- Paediatrics, neuro, and vascular interventions are not required
Main Duties of the Job
- Deliver a comprehensive general radiology service, including CT, MRI, ultrasound, and plain film reporting
- Provide subspecialty imaging support aligned with experience and departmental needs
- Participate actively in MDT meetings and cancer pathway discussions
- Undertake cross-sectional imaging reporting and support timely diagnostic pathways
- Contribute to non-vascular interventional procedures where appropriate
- Participate in the Consultant on-call rota, including remote reporting where required
- Provide clinical supervision and mentorship for junior doctors and radiographers
- Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activities
- Engage in clinical audit, quality improvement, governance, and appraisal processes
- Support service development and collaborative multidisciplinary working
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Full FRCR qualification
Desirable
- CCT / CESR (ideal but not essential for fixed-term appointment)
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register (preferred where possible)
Experience
Essential
- Minimum 1 year NHS experience
- Experience in general cross-sectional radiology reporting
- Ability to contribute to MDT pathways and multidisciplinary working
Desirable
- Experience participating in NHS on-call rotas
- Subspecialty expertise in one or more of the listed imaging areas
- Experience in non-vascular interventional radiology
Clinical Skills
Essential
- Strong general radiology reporting skills across modalities
- Ability to manage both elective and emergency imaging workload
- Understanding of MDT processes and cancer pathway imaging
Desirable
- Advanced subspecialty reporting skills
- Experience supporting oncology pathways
Audit, Teaching & Governance
Essential
- Evidence of participation in audit and clinical governance
- Commitment to CPD and revalidation
- Willingness to teach and supervise junior staff
Desirable
- Research or publication experience
- Educational involvement in training programmes
