An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Clinical Oncologist with a specialist interest in Breast cancer (with flexibility for a second tumour site, such as Urology). The post holder will join an established oncology team delivering high-quality cancer care across outpatient, inpatient and day-case settings while contributing to service development, education and research.
The role supports a modern oncology service with strong multidisciplinary collaboration, active involvement in clinical trials, and a commitment to innovation and integrated care pathways.
Main Duties of the Job
- Deliver consultant-led outpatient oncology clinics and support patients receiving systemic anti-cancer therapy.
- Provide specialist Breast oncology services, including radiotherapy and SACT management, with flexibility for an additional tumour site.
- Support acute oncology pathways and contribute to the management of unplanned cancer care.
- Take ownership of a defined tumour-site workload and ensure evidence-based clinical practice.
- Participate in MDT meetings, peer review and multidisciplinary decision-making.
- Contribute to medical leadership, service innovation and development within oncology services.
- Supervise and train junior medical staff and SAS doctors.
- Actively engage in clinical audit, governance programmes and quality improvement initiatives.
- Participate in research activities and support innovative oncology practice.
- Undertake CPD, appraisal and professional development in line with Royal College guidance.
- Promote interdisciplinary collaboration across oncology, radiotherapy, acute oncology and palliative care teams.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Training
Essential
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (or equivalent)
- Completion of higher specialist training in Clinical Oncology
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register (or within 6 months)
Desirable
- Higher degree (MD/PhD or equivalent)
Clinical Experience
Essential
- Ability to run radiotherapy and SACT services for a major tumour site (Breast), plus another tumour site
- Ability to provide expert clinical opinion and independent patient management
- Strong communication and clinical decision-making skills
Desirable
- Experience contributing to radiotherapy/SACT service development
- Involvement in clinical trials and research programmes
Teaching & Research
Essential
- Commitment to teaching junior doctors and allied health professionals
- Experience in clinical audit
Desirable
- Research experience and ability to translate research into practice
- Evidence of undergraduate/postgraduate teaching
- Publications in peer-reviewed journals
Management & Governance
Essential
- Ability to organise clinical workload efficiently and manage administrative responsibilities
