An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Temporary Consultant Physician in Geriatric Medicine to join a leading teaching hospital service in Ireland. This is a Consultant-led role within a large multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across the region.

This position offers the opportunity to lead and shape geriatric services while contributing to education, governance, and service development within a progressive healthcare environment.
 

Main Duties of the Job

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive Consultant-led Geriatric Medicine services.
  • Provide specialist assessment, diagnosis and management of older patients.
  • Lead inpatient and outpatient geriatric services.
  • Participate in the Consultant on-call rota.
  • Provide clinical leadership in complex frailty management and rehabilitation pathways.
  • A special interest in Stroke Medicine is desirable but not essential.

Leadership & Multidisciplinary Working

  • Lead and support a multidisciplinary team including medical, nursing and allied health professionals.
  • Engage collaboratively with local and regional service providers.
  • Contribute to service planning, pathway development and quality improvement initiatives.

Teaching, Audit & Research

  • Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
  • Engage in audit, clinical governance and research activities.
  • Apply evidence-based clinical decision-making in all aspects of practice.

Eligibility Criteria

Essential

  • Registered as a Specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland (IMC Specialist Registration).
  • Proven Consultant-level experience in Geriatric Medicine.
  • Eligible to work in Ireland.
  • Excellent English communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, organisational and team-management capabilities.
  • Evidence-based clinical practice skills.
  • Police Clearance.
  • Must not have worked in Ireland in the past 36 months.
  • Must not have applied for any HSE position within the past 24 months.
