We are seeking a motivated and committed Speciality Doctor in Stroke Medicine to join a high-performing hyper-acute stroke service in the South East. This is a full-time, fixed-term post offering excellent exposure to hyper-acute stroke care, thrombolysis, inpatient stroke management, and multidisciplinary rehabilitation services.
The post holder will work as part of a consultant-led stroke team delivering high-quality, evidence-based care across the whole stroke pathway.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
- Provide day-to-day medical care for patients admitted with acute stroke and TIA within a hyper-acute stroke unit.
- Participate in hyper-acute stroke assessment, including stroke thrombolysis pathways and emergency stroke calls, under consultant supervision.
- Conduct regular ward rounds across acute and rehabilitation stroke wards.
- Support the management of complex stroke patients, including those requiring high-dependency or ITU input.
- Contribute to inpatient stroke care planning, rehabilitation, discharge planning, and follow-up.
- Assist with rapid-access TIA services and stroke outpatient clinics, as required.
On-Call & Acute Cover
- Participate in the General Medicine and Stroke on-call rota as a middle-grade doctor.
- Support out-of-hours stroke admissions and general medical cover in line with service needs.
Multidisciplinary Working
- Work closely with stroke consultants, specialist stroke nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, dietitians, and social care teams.
- Contribute to MDT meetings, board rounds, and stroke pathway reviews.
Governance, Audit & Development
- Actively participate in clinical audit, quality improvement, and clinical governance activities.
- Contribute to service development initiatives within Stroke Medicine.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with Trust and national standards.
Teaching & Professional Development
- Support the teaching and supervision of junior doctors and allied healthcare professionals.
- Engage in continuing professional development (CPD), appraisal, and revalidation activities.
Person Specific
Essential Requirements
- Complete GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Minimum 1 year of NHS experience
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Experience in General (Internal) Medicine
- Demonstrable interest in Stroke Medicine
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Desirable Criteria
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent
- Previous experience in Stroke Medicine or acute neurology
- Experience in thrombolysis pathways or hyper-acute care
