An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Neurologist to join a friendly and expanding neurology service in the South West. This role offers a strong work–life balance, flexibility in scheduling, and the opportunity to develop a subspecialty interest while delivering high-quality general neurology care.

The post holder will provide both outpatient and inpatient neurology services, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, effective, evidence-based patient care.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver a high-quality general neurology service using evidence-based practice
  • Provide outpatient neurology clinics and inpatient neurology consultation support
  • Participate in ward-based referrals and advice for acute and chronic neurological conditions
  • Develop and lead a subspecialty interest that complements service needs
  • Advise and support medical, nursing, and allied health professionals
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and service development activities
  • Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training
  • Engage in clinical audit, quality improvement, and clinical governance activities
  • Support service planning and pathway development at the local and regional levels
  • Maintain high standards of clinical documentation and patient safety

Job Plan (Indicative)

  • Total: 10 Programmed Activities
  • Direct Clinical Care: Outpatient clinics, inpatient referrals, clinical administration
  • Supporting Professional Activities: Teaching, audit, CPD, appraisal, governance
  • Opportunities for additional SPA time, leadership roles, research, or tertiary centre sessions by agreement
 

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Complete GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Neurology or within 6 months of CCT
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year NHS experience

Desirable

  • Higher degree (MD, MSc, PhD or equivalent)
  • Subspecialty expertise within Neurology

Experience & Knowledge

Essential

  • Broad training and experience in general neurology
  • Ability to independently manage acute and chronic neurological conditions
  • Understanding of clinical governance, audit, and evidence-based practice
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team

Desirable

  • Experience developing or leading a specialist neurology service
  • Participation in research, audit, or service improvement projects
