An excellent opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Speciality Doctor in Emergency Medicine to join a supportive, well-established Emergency Department within Wales. This role is ideal for doctors seeking broad emergency exposure in a friendly, high-functioning department with strong consultant support.
Applicants must have at least 1 year of NHS experience and demonstrate a commitment to delivering high-quality emergency care across a full range of presentations.
Primary Duties of the Role
- Provide high-quality emergency medical care, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and initial management of adult and paediatric patients.
- Participate in a 24-hour Emergency Medicine rota, including out-of-hours and weekend working.
- Manage acute and complex emergency presentations independently, with consultant support available.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centred care.
- Communicate clearly with patients, relatives, carers, and clinical colleagues regarding diagnosis, management, and progress.
- Contribute to leadership and supervision of junior doctors and multidisciplinary staff during shifts.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and high-quality clinical documentation.
- Promote evidence-based clinical practice in line with national and local guidelines.
- Participate actively in clinical audit, quality improvement, and governance activities.
- Support teaching, training, and professional development of medical and non-medical staff
- Engage in service development initiatives to enhance emergency care delivery.
Essential Requirements
- Complete GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Minimum 1 year of NHS experience
- At least four years of postgraduate medical experience, with relevant emergency or acute care exposure
- Current Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification
- Ability to demonstrate core clinical competencies relevant to Emergency Medicine
- Evidence of participation in an audit or quality improvement activity
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and organisational skills
- Flexible approach to working patterns, including nights and weekends
Desirable
- Additional life-support or emergency care qualifications (e.g. ATLS, APLS)
- Previous experience leading or supervising clinical teams
- Teaching experience with medical students or resident doctors
- Understanding of clinical risk management and appraisal processes
