An excellent opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Speciality Doctor in Emergency Medicine to join a supportive, well-established Emergency Department within Wales. This role is ideal for doctors seeking broad emergency exposure in a friendly, high-functioning department with strong consultant support.

Applicants must have at least 1 year of NHS experience and demonstrate a commitment to delivering high-quality emergency care across a full range of presentations.

Primary Duties of the Role

  • Provide high-quality emergency medical care, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and initial management of adult and paediatric patients.
  • Participate in a 24-hour Emergency Medicine rota, including out-of-hours and weekend working.
  • Manage acute and complex emergency presentations independently, with consultant support available.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centred care.
  • Communicate clearly with patients, relatives, carers, and clinical colleagues regarding diagnosis, management, and progress.
  • Contribute to leadership and supervision of junior doctors and multidisciplinary staff during shifts.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and high-quality clinical documentation.
  • Promote evidence-based clinical practice in line with national and local guidelines.
  • Participate actively in clinical audit, quality improvement, and governance activities.
  • Support teaching, training, and professional development of medical and non-medical staff
  • Engage in service development initiatives to enhance emergency care delivery.

Essential Requirements

  • Complete GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • Minimum 1 year of NHS experience
  • At least four years of postgraduate medical experience, with relevant emergency or acute care exposure
  • Current Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification
  • Ability to demonstrate core clinical competencies relevant to Emergency Medicine
  • Evidence of participation in an audit or quality improvement activity
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organisational skills
  • Flexible approach to working patterns, including nights and weekends

Desirable

  • Additional life-support or emergency care qualifications (e.g. ATLS, APLS)
  • Previous experience leading or supervising clinical teams
  • Teaching experience with medical students or resident doctors
  • Understanding of clinical risk management and appraisal processes
