Community Paediatrics - Consultant

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced Consultant Community Paediatrician to join a well-established Community Paediatric Service in the East Midlands.
The post holder will deliver high-quality, consultant-led community paediatric care, working closely with multidisciplinary teams and partner agencies to support children with developmental, neurodisability, safeguarding, and complex health needs.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Generic Community Paediatric Responsibilities
- Provide consultant-led community paediatric services across a defined geographical area
- Lead and support community paediatric teams, including junior and speciality grade doctors
- Participate in multi-agency meetings, case conferences, safeguarding discussions, and liaise with schools and educational psychology services
- Work collaboratively with community nursing teams to support children under their care
- Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and departmental teaching
- Participate in clinical audit, guideline development, and service improvement initiatives
- Maintain close working relationships with acute paediatric teams to ensure continuity of care between hospital and community settings
- Provide community paediatric services across the wider county as service needs require
Specialist Responsibilities
- Undertake specialist assessments and management in:
- ADHD
- Autism spectrum conditions
- Neurodevelopmental and neurodisability presentations
- Conduct safeguarding medical evaluations and contribute to child protection processes
- Provide clinical advice and supervision to colleagues within areas of specialist expertise
- Monitor activity within specialist services and ensure appropriate clinical audit
- Work closely with statutory services, local authorities, education, and social care to coordinate care pathways
- Support service planning and development in collaboration with health and partner agencies
Clinical Governance, Audit & Research
- Actively participate in clinical governance and quality improvement programmes
- Demonstrate understanding of clinical risk management
- Apply research evidence to clinical practice
- Contribute to and lead clinical audit projects
Teaching & Professional Development
- Deliver teaching to trainees, speciality doctors, and multidisciplinary teams
- Participate in appraisal, revalidation, and Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
- Support training and supervision of junior doctors
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
- Complete GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Paediatrics (or within 6 months of CCT / CESR)
- Community Paediatrics experience is essential
- Minimum 1 year NHS experience
- Broad training and experience in Paediatrics / Community Child Health
- Evidence of participation in clinical audit
- Understanding of clinical governance and risk management
- Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical practice
- Experience in departmental teaching
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Ability to work independently and flexibly
Experience
- ADHD assessment and management
- Autism assessment and management
- Safeguarding medical assessments
Desirable Criteria
- Sub-speciality recognition in Community Child Health or Paediatric Neurodisability
- Postgraduate qualification in Paediatric Neurodisability
- Experience in SUDIC work
- Experience with community clinical systems (e.g. SystmOne)
