An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Physician in General Medicine, Diabetes and Endocrinology to join a busy, forward-thinking department delivering high-quality inpatient and outpatient care. The post holder will work as part of a well-established multidisciplinary team providing comprehensive diabetes, endocrine and general medical services, with strong links to community care and an active research portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consultant-led care for general medical emergencies, including on-call duties and post-take ward rounds.
- Deliver specialist Diabetes and Endocrinology outpatient clinics, alongside general medical clinics.
- Manage and review inpatients under the care of diabetes, endocrinology, and general medicine.
- Provide specialist advice to other clinical teams across the hospital.
- Work closely with primary care and community services to enhance diabetes care pathways.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, including specialist clinics and governance forums.
- Contribute to clinical governance, audit, appraisal, CPD and service improvement initiatives.
- Teach and supervise medical students and doctors in training.
- Support and contribute to research activity, including clinical trials and investigator-led studies
- Participate in service management, leadership and guideline development.
Specialty Services
- Comprehensive diabetes services, including antenatal, foot, renal, insulin pump, Type 1, young persons and complication clinics
- Endocrinology services, including metabolic bone disease, dynamic endocrine testing and MDT-led care
- Inpatient diabetes and endocrine consultation service
- Strong multidisciplinary support from specialist nurses, dietitians, podiatrists and research staff
Person Specification
Essential
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent
- SCE in Diabetes & Endocrinology
- Complete GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register (or within 6 months at interview) via CCT or CESR
- Minimum 1 year NHS experience
- Broad clinical experience in Diabetes, Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine
- Evidence of participation in clinical audit and governance
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Strong communication, leadership and organisational skills
Desirable
- Higher degree (MD / MSc / PhD)
- Research experience and publications
- Experience in clinical trials
- Recognised teaching qualification
- Management or leadership training
