An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist to join a well-established and forward-thinking cardiology service in the South West. This role is ideal for an experienced cardiologist with advanced interventional skills who wishes to contribute to a high-volume, high-quality PCI service while maintaining a strong general cardiology practice.
The successful applicant will join a large, supportive consultant team delivering comprehensive cardiology care, including emergency and elective PCI, within a modern, well-equipped catheterisation laboratory.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality interventional cardiology services, including elective and emergency PCI.
- Participate in a 24/7 Primary PCI (PPCI) rota on a shared basis.
- Provide inpatient cardiology care, including CCU and cardiology ward management.
- Undertake outpatient cardiology clinics as part of the general cardiology service.
- Participate in coronary angiography and complex PCI procedures (including CTO and rotablation where appropriate)
- Contribute to multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and clinical decision-making.
- Support the development and expansion of interventional cardiology services.
- Engage in teaching and supervision of junior doctors, trainees, and MDT colleagues.
- Participate in clinical audit, governance, and quality improvement activities.
- Work collaboratively with nursing, physiologists, and allied health professional teams.
On-Call & Job Planning
- Participation in an interventional cardiology on-call rota
- Job plans are flexible and may be tailored, including less-than-full-time or job-share options.
- No general medical on-call commitment
- Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) is included in job planning, with opportunities for education, audit, and service development.
Essential Requirements
Qualifications
- Complete GMC registration with a licence to practise
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent
- GMC Specialist Register in Cardiology (or within 6 months of CCT at interview)
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of NHS experience
- Contemporary experience in acute cardiology
- Demonstrated competency in:
- Coronary angiography
- Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI)
- Primary PCI (PPCI)

Desirable Criteria
- Experience in complex PCI (e.g. CTO, rotablation)
- Higher degree (MD / PhD or equivalent)
- Experience in echocardiography (TTE/TOE)
- Interest in service development, research, or education
- Evidence of leadership, audit, or quality improvement work
