About the Role
As a Consultant in Stroke Medicine, you will play a pivotal role in delivering and developing comprehensive acute stroke and rehabilitation services. You will work alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team of Specialist Nurses, Therapists, and Consultants from partner hospitals to ensure the delivery of exceptional, patient-centred care.
The post includes responsibility for both inpatient and outpatient Stroke Medicine services, as well as participation in the General Internal Medicine on-call rota. The service benefits from cutting-edge diagnostic support, including Rapid AI and readily available CT perfusion imaging, allowing for swift and effective treatment decisions.
You will also contribute to the supervision and education of junior doctors, alongside involvement in audit, teaching, and clinical governance activities to maintain the highest standards of care.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver inpatient and outpatient Stroke Medicine services.
- Participate in the acute medical on-call rota (1 in 11 frequency).
- Provide occasional inpatient General Medicine cover.
- Support and supervise junior medical staff.
- Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, examinations, and continuing medical education.
- Engage actively in clinical audit, service development, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate within the multidisciplinary team to deliver timely and effective thrombolysis and rehabilitation care.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree.
- MRCP or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
- Complete GMC registration with a licence to practise.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for General Internal Medicine and either Stroke Medicine or Geriatrics, via:
- CCT (proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview), or
- CESR, or
- European Community rights.
Experience
- Completion of a recognised training programme in General Internal Medicine and Care of the Elderly, with substantial Stroke Medicine experience.
- Demonstrated competence and confidence in managing acute stroke, rehabilitation, and general medical patients.
Teaching & Research
- Proven record of teaching undergraduates, postgraduates, and junior medical staff.
- Evidence of involvement in clinical audit and quality improvement relevant to the speciality.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and evidence-based practice.
