An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Acute Medicine Consultant to join a dynamic, high-performing team in the North West region. Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver hands-on involvement with acute medical admissions, ensuring timely assessment, management, and discharge of patients.
  • Supervise junior doctors, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, and Nurse Consultants working across the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC).
  • Provide clinical leadership and guidance to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Participate in the teaching and training of undergraduate medical students and junior doctors.
  • Contribute to departmental meetings, service development, governance, and audit activities.
  • Engage in Continuing Professional Development (CPD), annual appraisal, and revalidation.
  • Ensure adherence to Trust clinical governance standards, risk management, and quality frameworks.

Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • Complete registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and a valid licence to practise
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent
  • CCT in Acute Medicine/General Internal Medicine (or within 6 months of completion)
  • Minimum 1 year of NHS experience
  • Proven ability to make sound clinical decisions in acute medical settings
  • Commitment to clinical governance, audit, and teaching

Desirable

  • CESR qualification or eligibility
  • Higher Degree (MD/PhD or equivalent)
  • Substantial (5+ years) Acute Internal Medicine experience
  • Speciality Certificate Examination in Acute Internal Medicine
  • Experience in service development and multidisciplinary collaboration
