We are currently seeking passionate and motivated Consultant Geriatricians to join a leading NHS Trust in the South East region. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in reshaping and strengthening the delivery of geriatric and frailty care services across the area.

The role focuses on providing exceptional inpatient care, leading multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to the ongoing transformation of acute care for the ageing population. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team dedicated to achieving the best possible outcomes for older patients.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality day-to-day care for elderly patients across inpatient wards.
  • Contribute to the Acute Frailty team by performing Comprehensive Geriatric Assessments (CGAs).
  • Participate in Rapid Access Clinics and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) initiatives.
  • Join the GIM on-call rota (currently 1:8), with plans to move towards a specialised frailty take.
  • Support service development, audit, and clinical governance activities.
  • Provide teaching and mentorship to junior doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals.
  • Maintain professional development through active participation in CPD, appraisal, and revalidation.

Requirements

  • Complete GMC registration (or eligibility within six months).
  • MRCP or an equivalent postgraduate qualification.
  • CCT in Geriatric Medicine or within six months of completion (or international equivalent recognised by the GMC).
  • Minimum 1 year of NHS experience within Geriatric or General Internal Medicine.
  • Proven experience in managing elderly and frail patients, with strong clinical leadership and communication skills.

Desirable

  • CCT in General (Internal) Medicine or equivalent.
  • Experience or qualifications in teaching, gerontology, or service development.
  • Record of participation in research, audit, or quality improvement projects.
