Locum Consultant Haematology

Apply now
Yorkshire and the HumberHaematologyFixed TermConsultant07 October 2025£100,870 to £111,441 a year

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Locum Consultant Haematologist to join a well-established and dynamic Haematology team in the Yorkshire and Humber region. This locum post is available for immediate start, offering flexibility for full-time, part-time, or job-share arrangements. The successful candidate will join a team of six Consultants delivering comprehensive Haematology services to a population of approximately 800,000, including high-intensity chemotherapy care.

The service provides outpatient chemotherapy across multiple sites, with all inpatient care centralised at the main hospital. The department functions as a non-comprehensive Haemophilia centre, and while an interest in bleeding disorders would be desirable, it is not essential. The role offers opportunities for involvement in both clinical and laboratory haematology, with the successful candidate participating in a 1:7 non-resident on-call rota.

This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated Haematologist looking to work within a supportive multidisciplinary environment that values collaboration, clinical excellence, and continuous professional development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver a high standard of Haematology care, including diagnostic, therapeutic, and consultative services.
  • Contribute to inpatient and outpatient management, ensuring continuity and quality of patient care.
  • Provide cross-site clinical support, with one day per week at a secondary site.
  • Participate in laboratory haematology services and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Take part in the on-call rota, providing clinical advice on transfusion and blood film reporting.
  • Engage in teaching and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate medical trainees.
  • Participate in audit, clinical governance, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain compliance with professional, Trust, and GMC standards.
  • Support ongoing research programmes and contribute to service development.

Essential Requirements

  • Complete registration and licence to practise with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • MRCP and MRCPath (or equivalent).
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Haematology, or within six months of CCT/CESR at the time of interview.
  • Demonstrable experience and competence in both clinical and laboratory Haematology.
  • Proven ability to provide independent clinical decision-making at Consultant level.
  • Strong understanding of clinical governance and patient safety principles.

Desirable Attributes

  • Previous NHS experience in a similar role.
  • Interest or expertise in bleeding disorders or Haemophilia services.
  • Experience in conducting clinical audits and presenting findings.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Demonstrated leadership and contribution to service development or change management initiatives.
