We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Locum Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine to join an established team of Intensivists within the Yorkshire and Humber region. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic and forward-thinking critical care service within a modern, state-of-the-art facility.

A strong multidisciplinary team, including a robust middle grade and trainee rota, senior nurse leadership, and dedicated educator support, support the ICU. The team is known for its collaborative approach and commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.

The unit utilises the Metavision Clinical Information System for seamless and high-performance clinical documentation, accessible remotely.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contribute to day-to-day and on-call ICU duties, working closely with fellow Intensivists and Anaesthetists.
  • Provide consultant-led care for critically ill patients, ensuring the highest standards of clinical practice.
  • Participate in service development, quality improvement, and clinical governance activities.
  • Engage in teaching and training of undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff.
  • Collaborate effectively within the multidisciplinary team to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Support the continuous development and expansion of the ICU service.

Job Plan and Commitment

  • Average weekly PAs: 10
  • Direct Clinical Care (DCC): 5.95 PA per week
  • Supporting Professional Activities (SPA): 1.25 PA per week, covering appraisal, revalidation, teaching, professional development, and governance.
  • On-call commitment: 2.8 PAs per week (Category A), based on a 1:8 rota.
  • Residency requirement: The post holder must reside within 30 minutes or 10 miles (by road) of the hospital for on-call duties.

The role offers flexibility for dual CCT holders in Anaesthesia and ICM, allowing for a balanced job plan tailored to individual skills and interests. Job plans will be finalised with the Lead Clinician and Clinical Director upon appointment and reviewed annually.

Essential Criteria

  • Complete GMC registration and licence to practise.
  • Minimum 6 months NHS experience
  • FRCA or equivalent qualification.
  • Demonstrated competence and experience working independently at Consultant level.
  • Evidence of advanced resuscitation skills and experience managing critically unwell patients.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and teaching skills.
  • Willingness to reside within the required distance for on-call commitments.
