Consultant Permanent - Hepatology
Apply nowAn excellent opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Hepatologist to join the dynamic and supportive Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department in the Yorkshire and Humber region.

The Hepatology service has recently achieved Level 2 IQILS accreditation, a testament to the high standards of liver care provided across the region. The service is supported by an experienced multidisciplinary team, including clinical nurse specialists and medical colleagues, and maintains strong links with the Leeds Liver Transplantation Service.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct hepatology outpatient clinics and actively engage with the hepatology multidisciplinary team (MDT).
- Provide elective endoscopy services, including upper endoscopies and, where applicable, variceal surveillance, treatment, ERCP, and lower endoscopies.
- Manage inpatients with general gastroenterology conditions and provide out-of-hours GI bleed cover (1:9 rota).
- Contribute to the continued development of hepatology and gastroenterology services across the region.
- Participate in clinical research and quality improvement initiatives.
- Provide teaching and mentorship to undergraduate students and junior trainees through collaboration with Hull York Medical School (HYMS).

Candidate Requirements
Essential Criteria:
- Complete GMC registration with a licence to practise.
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent medical qualification.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Gastroenterology and General (Internal) Medicine, or within 6 months of CCT/CESR approval at the time of interview.
- Demonstrable independent clinical experience and expertise in Hepatology at Consultant level.
- Competence in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.
- Proven experience in teaching and supervising junior medical staff.
- Eligible to work in the UK.
Desirable Criteria:
- Substantive NHS experience.
- MD, PhD, or equivalent higher degree.
- Experience in hepatology-related research or publications.
- Experience supervising speciality registrars or holding a higher teaching qualification.
