We are seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Consultant Gastroenterologist to join a leading Gastroenterology team in Greater London. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a vibrant department committed to providing high-quality patient care, education, and research.
About the Role:
- Contract: Full-time Consultant, 10 PA
- Location: Greater London, acute hospital site
- Responsibilities:
- Undertake high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower GI endoscopy
- Provide outpatient gastroenterology care, including patient administration
- Manage inpatients, including acute gastroenterology admissions
- Participate in the on-call GI Bleed rota
- Attend weekly multidisciplinary meetings and monthly governance meetings
- Contribute to the development and introduction of new services within the speciality
- Act as joint clinical supervisor for SpRs in Gastroenterology
- Engage in clinical audit, research, and teaching for junior doctors
- Participate in continuing professional development, appraisal, and revalidation
Department Profile:
- Acute site gastroenterology team: 6 Consultants, 2 Registrars, 1 Specialist Doctor, and three specialist nurses (IBD and viral hepatitis)
- Specialist services include ERCP, oesophageal physiology, capsule endoscopy, and fibro scanning.
- Active education and training hub for medical students, nurses, and allied health professionals
Person Specification:
Essential Qualifications & Registration:
- MBBS or equivalent
- MRCP or equivalent
- CCT in Gastroenterology and General Medicine
- Full GMC registration and Specialist Register for Gastroenterology
Clinical Experience & Skills:
- Leadership experience, ability to work under pressure, and build strong relationships with the multidisciplinary team
- Sympathetic approach to patients and families
- Experience in teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate trainees
Desirable Attributes:
- Sub-specialist interests (e.g., IBD, hepatology, nutrition)
- Publications, audit participation, research experience
- NHS management experience or training
