We are seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Consultant Gastroenterologist to join a leading Gastroenterology team in Greater London. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a vibrant department committed to providing high-quality patient care, education, and research.

About the Role:

  • Contract: Full-time Consultant, 10 PA
  • Location: Greater London, acute hospital site
  • Responsibilities:
    • Undertake high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower GI endoscopy
    • Provide outpatient gastroenterology care, including patient administration
    • Manage inpatients, including acute gastroenterology admissions
    • Participate in the on-call GI Bleed rota
    • Attend weekly multidisciplinary meetings and monthly governance meetings
    • Contribute to the development and introduction of new services within the speciality
    • Act as joint clinical supervisor for SpRs in Gastroenterology
    • Engage in clinical audit, research, and teaching for junior doctors
    • Participate in continuing professional development, appraisal, and revalidation

Department Profile:

  • Acute site gastroenterology team: 6 Consultants, 2 Registrars, 1 Specialist Doctor, and three specialist nurses (IBD and viral hepatitis)
  • Specialist services include ERCP, oesophageal physiology, capsule endoscopy, and fibro scanning.
  • Active education and training hub for medical students, nurses, and allied health professionals

Person Specification:

Essential Qualifications & Registration:

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • CCT in Gastroenterology and General Medicine
  • Full GMC registration and Specialist Register for Gastroenterology

Clinical Experience & Skills:

  • Leadership experience, ability to work under pressure, and build strong relationships with the multidisciplinary team
  • Sympathetic approach to patients and families
  • Experience in teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate trainees

Desirable Attributes:

  • Sub-specialist interests (e.g., IBD, hepatology, nutrition)
  • Publications, audit participation, research experience
  • NHS management experience or training
