Geriatrics - Specialty Doctor

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialty Doctor in Geriatric Medicine to join a dynamic and supportive multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality care for older adults across acute and community settings in the South East region.
The post-holder will work under the direct supervision of a Consultant Geriatrician and provide inpatient care across frailty units. The role is designed to support CESR progression and offers excellent professional development opportunities in a department with a proven track record of success.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive inpatient care to frail older adults across designated frailty wards and community-based units.
- Attend daily board rounds to support discharge planning and continuity of care.
- Work collaboratively within a large multidisciplinary team including nurses, therapists, pharmacists, and social care teams.
- Promote safe and effective clinical handovers in line with governance frameworks.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits.
- Engage with CESR development opportunities, supported by a named Consultant Mentor.
- Provide teaching and supervision to Foundation Year and Core Trainee doctors.
- Support weekend services on a rotational basis (under development), with appropriate additional remuneration.
Role Description

- Acute frailty management
- Complex comorbidity optimisation and polypharmacy reviews
- Delirium and dementia management
- Falls prevention and Parkinson’s disease care (based on interest)
- Advanced care planning and end-of-life decision-making

- Exposure to holistic MDT working and leadership development
Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
Essential:
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
- MRCP or equivalent (or actively working towards completion)
- Minimum four years of postgraduate training, including at least two years in a relevant specialty
Experience
Essential:
- Experience in General Medicine and Geriatrics
- Experience of clinical audit and quality improvement initiatives
- Experience teaching junior doctors and medical students
Desirable: - Evidence of service development or pathway improvement
Knowledge
Essential:
- Understanding of Clinical Governance principles
- Knowledge of legal frameworks including Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
- Familiarity with subject-specific competencies and leadership responsibilities
Skills
- Strong decision-making ability at senior clinical level
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to inspire and work effectively within a team
- Commitment to patient-centred care and ongoing professional development
