Stroke - Consultant
Are you an experienced Stroke Medicine Consultant or a newly qualified doctor ready to take the next step in your career? We are offering an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and supportive Stroke Service in the South West region.
Whether you're from a General Internal Medicine (GIM), Neurology or Stroke background, if you have a passion for improving stroke pathways and patient outcomes, we want to hear from you. You will work alongside a collaborative team of Consultants to deliver high-quality care and contribute to advancing SSNAP performance.
The stroke/neurology team is based in a modern, well-equipped clinical space which includes outpatient clinic rooms, a therapy centre, and a day hospital. Rehabilitation services are provided onsite in a separate dedicated facility.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Duties:
- Deliver evidence-based care to stroke patients in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Provide ongoing care and administrative support for your patients, with secretarial assistance.
- Participate in the consultant on-call rota (details in job plan).
- Collaborate with MDTs to enhance patient care pathways.
- Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
- Develop subspecialty interests aligned with service needs.
- Support audit, risk management and clinical governance initiatives.
- Provide cross-cover for consultant colleagues during periods of leave.
Leadership & Management Responsibilities:
- Support the Clinical Lead in shaping service strategy and development.
- Assist in cost-effective resource utilisation and service improvement.
- Foster effective communication and engagement across departments.
- Supervise junior staff and participate in departmental teaching.
- Conduct investigations and report on incidents and risk management.
- Model and promote NHS values and standards.
Person Specification
Qualifications:
- Fully registered with the GMC.
Experience:
- Training and experience equivalent to UK CCT.
- Expertise across all aspects of stroke medicine.
Teaching & Research:
- Skilled in clinical teaching for trainees and MDTs.
- Demonstrable leadership experience in multidisciplinary teams.
- Published in peer-reviewed journals.
