An exciting opportunity is available for a Speciality Doctor or senior ST4+ level clinician to join the Emergency Medicine team in the North West. This role plays a pivotal part in modernising the emergency care pathway, contributing to national Clinical Quality Indicators and supporting a system-wide emergency flow improvement programme.
The post supports the development of emergency care provision at two major hospital sites in the region, with an emphasis on leadership, high-quality patient care, teaching, and professional development. The successful candidate will be instrumental in delivering effective care on the emergency department floor, with support from consultants and multidisciplinary staff.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide clinical care for the full spectrum of Emergency Department presentations, including resuscitation, trauma, paediatrics, and minor injuries.
- Independently manage the department overnight as a senior decision-maker, ensuring safe and efficient patient care.
- Supervise and support junior doctors, medical students, and nursing staff.
- Assist consultants and senior nurses with department flow and real-time leadership on the shop floor.
- Support quality improvement and governance initiatives, including audit and guideline implementation.
- Participate in observation ward rounds and routine patient reviews.
- Undertake administrative responsibilities, including review of investigation results and completion of documentation.
- Attend and contribute to departmental teaching and simulation training sessions.
- Engage in personal development and maintain professional standards in line with GMC guidance.
- Adhere to all local policies and national emergency care standards.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Training (Essential)
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree
- Complete GMC Registration with a Licence to Practise
- Current certification in:
- ALS / ACLS
- ATLS / ETC
- APLS / EPLS
Desirable
- Postgraduate Royal College qualification (e.g., MRCEM/MRCP/MRCS)
- Wilderness or humanitarian medicine certification
- Educational qualification or teaching course
Experience & Clinical Skills (Essential)
- Minimum of 4 years post-registration experience
- Minimum 36 months of Emergency Medicine experience
- At least 3 months of Anaesthesia and/or Intensive Care Medicine
- Experience in general or emergency paediatrics
- Proven ability to manage complex cases independently
- Good communication, decision-making, and interpersonal skills
- NHS experience of at least 12 months
Desirable
- Involvement in audit, research, or service development
- Teaching experience at the undergraduate or postgraduate level
- Presentation and public speaking skills
