Acute Medicine - Consultant

We seek high-performing and committed individuals to join a well-established team of Acute Medicine Consultants within a leading healthcare provider in the West Midlands. A dynamic multidisciplinary team supports the department and works closely with specialists in Respiratory, Diabetes, Infectious Disease, Renal Medicine, and Intensive Care to deliver high-quality care to acutely unwell patients.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide expert clinical assessment and management of patients within the Acute Medicine service.
- Supervise and support junior medical staff, ACPs, and nursing teams during clinical sessions.
- Participate in providing and developing the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and short-stay services.
- Engage in departmental meetings, governance activities, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to clinical colleagues' education and professional development, including simulation-based learning.
- Undertake administrative duties relating to patient care and departmental functioning.
- Take part in on-call and emergency support responsibilities, aligned with departmental rota.
- Participate in an annual appraisal and job planning process, with flexibility to accommodate special interests or roles in education, research, or leadership.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree
- Full MRCP (UK) or equivalent postgraduate medical qualification
- GMC registration with a licence to practise
- CCT or CESR in Acute Medicine
- (Applicants with a CCT/CESR in General Medicine with substantial experience in Acute Medicine at the consultant level will also be considered)
- Evidence of continued professional development (including CME)
Clinical Experience & Skills
- Minimum of 12 years of medical experience post-qualification
- At least 6 years of experience in Acute Medicine in Specialty Doctor or SAS grades
- (Relevant speciality experience in equivalent roles will be considered)
- Proven ability to manage a wide range of acute medical conditions independently
- Familiarity with Clinical Governance, Audit, and patient safety practices
- Experience in supervising and teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees
- Experience with multidisciplinary teamwork and service development
