General Internal Medicine / Diabetes & Endocrinology - Consultant
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in General Internal Medicine and Diabetes and Endocrinology to join a dynamic and supportive team based in the North West of England. We seek an enthusiastic and motivated consultant to support the continued development of Diabetes, Endocrinology, and General Medicine services across hospital and community settings.
There are established partnerships with regional centres for pituitary and endocrine surgical services and monthly multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings for thyroid and parathyroid conditions. Diabetes podiatry services are integrated into the pathway with daily clinics and multiple weekly Diabetes Foot MDT sessions.
Consultants are provided with a dedicated office, administrative support, and IT equipment. A consultant mentor will also be assigned to newly appointed colleagues.
Main Clinical Duties:
- Supervise and manage inpatients in the Diabetes and Endocrine ward.
- Delivery of outpatient clinics in diabetes, endocrinology, and general medicine.
- Management of inpatient diabetes and endocrine referrals.
- Participation in the Internal Medicine on-call rota.
- Contribution to multidisciplinary team meetings and speciality development.
- Involvement in service improvement initiatives and potential expansion of community services.
- Teaching and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate trainees.
- Engagement in audit, clinical governance, and quality improvement projects.
Person Specification:
Qualifications and Training:
Essential:
- Medical qualification registered with the GMC.
- Entry onto the Specialist Register for Diabetes and Endocrinology (or within six months of obtaining CCT at the interview date).
- MRCP or equivalent.
Desirable:
- MD or equivalent higher degree.
- Evidence of research experience or interest.
Clinical Experience:
Essential:
- High standard of clinical skill and expertise in Diabetes, Endocrinology, and General Internal Medicine.
- Ability to participate fully in the on-call rota.
Management and Administrative Experience:
Essential:
- Evidence of participation in clinical audit and governance.
- Ability to supervise postgraduate trainees and manage waiting lists.
- Time management and organisational skills.
Desirable:
- Formal management training.
Teaching Experience:
Essential:
- Experience in teaching and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff.
- Ability to teach clinical skills effectively.
Research Experience:
Essential:
- Ability to critically appraise research.
- Ability to apply research findings to clinical practice.
Desirable:
- Experience in research leading to publication or presentation.
