We seek an experienced and enthusiastic Specialty Doctor to join a dynamic and well-supported Emergency Medicine team in a modern, purpose-built Emergency Department in Greater London. The department has recently undergone a £25 million redevelopment and features co-located CT scanning, on-site x-ray, complete diagnostic laboratory services, a 30-bedded Clinical Decision Unit (CDU), an Ambulatory Care Unit, and an Urgent Care Centre.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • Provide high-quality care to patients attending the Emergency Department.
  • Examine, assess, and treat patients with various emergency conditions.
  • Manage patients admitted to the Clinical Decision Unit, including daily ward rounds.
  • Conduct review clinics covering soft tissue injuries, wounds, burns, and minor trauma.
  • Support clinical decision-making of both medical and nursing staff across the department.

Teaching & Training

  • Participate in the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes.
  • Contribute to training initiatives for Emergency Nurse Practitioners and nursing staff.
  • Engage in professional development activities and training as agreed upon with the educational supervisor.

Clinical Governance & Quality Improvement

  • Promote and implement evidence-based clinical practice.
  • Contribute to clinical audit, risk management, and the development of departmental guidelines.
  • Investigate and respond to complaints or incidents and implement improvement plans.
  • Stay current with Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in line with guidance from the Royal College of Emergency Medicine.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in clinical governance and Trust-led safety procedures.
  • Attend conferences and courses to maintain and develop clinical and managerial competencies.
  • Take part in the annual job planning and appraisal processes.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential:

  • MBBS or equivalent.
  • Complete registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • A recognised Emergency Medicine qualification (e.g., MRCEM, FRCEM, MEM, PGDEM, DEM) or 24 months of formal clinical experience in Emergency Medicine.

Desirable:

  • ALS, ATLS, APLS or EPLS provider.
  • Higher academic degree.
  • Membership of a medical defence organisation.

Experience & Skills

Essential:

  • A minimum of 12 months clinical experience in Emergency Medicine.
  • Demonstrated commitment to medical audit and quality improvement.
  • Valid certifications in ALS, ATLS, and/or APLS.

Desirable:

  • Clinical experience in additional medical specialities.
  • Experience in teaching and training medical and nursing staff.
  • Proficiency in the use of point-of-care ultrasound.
