An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Clinical Oncologist to join a dynamic and expanding team in the North West. This role is part of a wider initiative to strengthen the oncology workforce and enhance the quality of care provided to patients in the region.
The successful candidate will be based in a leading oncology center, with access to cutting-edge technology and multidisciplinary collaboration. There is an on-call requirement, with participation in a 1 in 8 rota. Applicants with expertise in other tumour sites are also encouraged to apply, and job plans will be tailored to accommodate individual and departmental needs.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialist oncological care with a focus on Urological and Colorectal malignancies.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless cancer care and patient management.
- Develop a site-specific specialist interest and engage in clinical research, including participation in national and international studies.
- Conduct regular ward rounds and provide inpatient care for oncology patients.
- Collaborate with consultant colleagues and other medical professionals to ensure a cohesive approach to patient treatment.
- Work alongside haematology and palliative care teams to provide comprehensive inpatient support.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives, promoting clinical effectiveness and evidence-based medicine.
- Participate in medical education, mentoring junior doctors, and contributing to departmental teaching programs.
- Take part in clinical audits and contribute to service development.
Person Specification:
Essential Criteria:
- Full GMC registration.
- MB ChB or equivalent medical qualification.
- FRCR or equivalent.
- Inclusion on the Specialist Register or eligibility within six months of the interview date.
- CCT or equivalent (to be confirmed by GMC by the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee).
- Relevant experience in a training-grade role at Specialist Registrar (SpR) or Senior Registrar (SR) level.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to change.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and education.
Desirable Criteria:
- Higher medical degree (MD, PhD, or equivalent).
- Leadership experience in directing and mentoring medical and nursing staff.
- Published research in oncology or related fields.
- Experience in clinical audit and service improvement initiatives.
- IT proficiency and experience in digital healthcare solutions.
