Consultant Pathologist

We are seeking a Consultant Pathologist to join our dynamic team of specialists. The department supports subspecialist reporting in a wide range of areas, and there is flexibility to tailor the successful candidate’s role to align with their interests and departmental needs. Opportunities to contribute to subspecialty areas include renal biopsies, lymphoma, sarcoma, medical liver biopsies, breast, gastrointestinal, urological, thoracic, head & neck, and hepatic-pancreaticobiliary pathology.

The department encourages sub-specialisation, and there is scope for the post-holder to take on lead responsibilities in areas of interest, subject to mutual agreement.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Develop areas of sub-specialisation and actively contribute to the relevant reporting teams.
  • Participate in reporting general diagnostic histopathology and subspecialty areas of interest, focusing on areas such as soft tissue pathology, thoracic pathology, uropathology, gastrointestinal pathology, head & neck pathology, medical liver, and renal biopsies.
  • Provide high-quality diagnostic services, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Take on lead pathologist responsibilities in agreed areas of interest, where applicable.
  • Optionally, participate in coronial post-mortem work, if desired.
  • To enhance service delivery and contribute to clinical audit, research, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in the teaching of medical students, speciality trainees, and other professional groups.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

  • Complete registration and specialist registration with the GMC (or eligibility for registration within six months of the interview).
  • Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or within six months of award of CCT by the date of the interview (for UK-trained applicants).
  • FRCPath Part II.
  • M/FRCP or equivalent qualification.
  • Formal management training or demonstrated management experience.
  • Enthusiasm for and experience in teaching medical students.

Clinical Skills and Experience

  • Thorough knowledge and extensive experience in general diagnostic histopathology.
  • Specific interest in subspecialties such as soft tissue pathology, thoracic pathology, urology, head & neck pathology, medical renal pathology, or medical liver pathology.
