We seek a dedicated Specialty Doctor in Paediatrics and Neonates to join our team. This permanent position provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience in both General Paediatrics and Neonates. The successful candidate will benefit from a supportive environment designed to advance their career, with opportunities to enter paediatric training schemes and gain entry to the speciality register through the CESR process. This role is ideal for doctors with at least two years of post-graduate experience in paediatrics, including neonatal intensive care experience.
Main Duties of the Job
The role involves providing comprehensive care to paediatric and neonatal patients, covering all aspects of acute inpatient care. This includes attending deliveries of sick term and preterm infants, and providing medical assessments in the Emergency Department and resuscitation areas when necessary. The appointee will be expected to undertake S47 assessments with direct consultant supervision.
In addition, there will be opportunities to attend outpatient clinics and participate in audit and research activities, allowing the successful candidate to develop an area of personal interest. Training in medical education is available, with one middle-grade doctor designated as an educational supervisor. Opportunities to gain leadership experience in both clinical and governance areas are also encouraged.
The rota consists of standard days, long days, and night shifts, and includes dedicated cover from junior doctors during weekdays and weekends.
Job Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive paediatric and neonatal care, including attendance at deliveries and emergency procedures.
- Provide support for child protection assessments and other medical procedures with consultant supervision.
- Participate in outpatient clinics and take part in audit and research activities.
- Contribute to the education and development of junior staff and trainees, with opportunities for teaching and supervision.
- Take part in clinical governance, including audits, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of clinical guidelines.
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide high-quality patient care across the trust.
Professional Qualifications
- Registration with the GMC
- MB or equivalent medical degree
- MRCPCH Part 1 or equivalent
- MRCPCH Part 2 or equivalent
Training and Experience
- Experience in paediatrics, including six months of neonatal experience in a regional or sub-regional unit
- Experience in managing a wide range of paediatric emergencies
- Experience in paediatric outpatient management
- Child protection training and experience
- Up-to-date PALS/APLS and NLS training (or acceptance on course)
- Sub-specialty training
- Some experience in Community Child Health
- Previous experience in a middle-grade rota
- Understanding of clinical governance activities
- Experience in conducting audit projects
- Familiarity with clinical guidelines
- Evidence of completing audit cycles
- Involvement in revising or producing guidelines
