Adult Psychiatry - Community - Specialist

As a Specialist Doctor in General Adult Psychiatry, you will play a crucial role in providing senior medical leadership and support to the team.

Your responsibilities will include diagnostic assessments, treatment planning, and the management of complex cases, in addition to promoting mental health and independence for patients. Collaborating with the multidisciplinary team, you will ensure the delivery of a service of the highest quality, complying with legal obligations and promoting fair access to services for all.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Provide senior medical leadership alongside the consultants, particularly in their absence.
  2. Attend daily morning referral meetings and offer support in triaging patients requiring medical opinions.
  3. Conduct diagnostic assessments and deliver appropriate treatment to individuals under the team's care.
  4. Lead the management of complex cases, collaborating with the multidisciplinary team.
  5. Ensure patients' physical health by liaising with other agencies, including GPs and general hospital services.
  6. Promote mental health and independence among all patients.
  7. Offer clinical and professional leadership within the service.
  8. Support carers and relatives, involving them in care plans where possible.
  9. Facilitate access to community-oriented services for those in need.
  10. Foster effective communication with other Trust services and external partner agencies for the benefit of patients.
  11. Demonstrate high-quality management of mental health patients by supporting non-medical staff.
  12. Participate in management activities related to the post or the wider service.
  13. Comply with all legal obligations covering clinical practice, such as the Mental Health Act (1983) and Mental Capacity Act (2005).
  14. Ensure fair access to services for all patients.
  15. Report any concerns about professional conduct or competence of medical or other colleagues.

  • Full GMC 
  • Full MRCPsych
