Liaison Psychiatrist - Locum Consultant
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant in Psychiatric Liaison to join a Trust in the South West of England. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide expert psychiatric assessment and consultation services to patients in various medical and surgical settings.
As a Consultant in Psychiatric Liaison, you will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between physical health and mental health, ensuring comprehensive care for adult patients with psychiatric conditions.
Key Responsibilities:

Psychiatric Assessment and Consultation: Conduct thorough psychiatric assessments of patients referred from medical and surgical departments, utilizing your extensive experience in adult psychiatry. Offer expert advice and recommendations regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, and appropriate interventions.

Collaboration and Liaison: Collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals from diverse disciplines, including physicians, nurses, social workers, and allied healthcare staff. Communicate and coordinate care plans efficiently and clearly, ensuring seamless integration of psychiatric and physical healthcare services.

Risk Assessment and Management: Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential risks to patients' mental health and develop appropriate risk management plans. Provide guidance and support to healthcare teams in managing complex cases involving psychiatric comorbidity.

Education and Training: Contribute to the professional development of healthcare staff by providing educational sessions and training on mental health topics. Foster a culture of awareness and understanding of mental health issues within the organization.

Research and Quality Improvement: Actively participate in research initiatives and quality improvement projects related to psychiatric liaison services. Stay updated with the latest developments and best practices in the field of psychiatry and psychiatric liaison.

Clinical Governance: Comply with relevant legal and ethical guidelines, maintaining high standards of professional practice. Ensure accurate and timely documentation of assessments, consultations, and treatment plans. Participate in clinical audits and peer reviews to support continuous improvement.
Essential Qualifications:
- Full General Medical Council (GMC) registration and inclusion on the Specialist Register in Psychiatry.
- IELTS/OET.
- Extensive experience in adult psychiatry, including managing patients with complex mental health conditions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and a keen interest in research and innovation in psychiatric liaison.
