This September marks the 22nd European Day of Languages with celebrations due to take place in Europe and beyond. This day is dedicated to promoting the benefits of language learning and encouraging language learning among people of different ages. Mastering any foreign language, especially English can open new pathways for you from lucrative job opportunities to new cultural horizons. It might come off as a surprise to you, but English happens to be one of the oldest languages and is spoken by almost 952 million people around the world. It is the official language of 67 different countries and 27 non-sovereign entities.
Here’s how you can celebrate this special day:
– Pursue a new language
You could pursue a new language. Learning any new language might be challenging at first, but with perseverance, hard work and dedication success isn’t far off. If you’re interested in moving to the UK to work in the British healthcare system and you already meet the GMC English language requirements, you can still benefit from speaking an additional language when working in the NHS. After all, over 250 languages are spoken in London alone, making it the most linguistically diverse city in the world.
– Share your experience
You could inspire and influence others by sharing your experience of learning a new language, gaining the necessary qualifications, and relocating to a different country. You can talk about the challenges you faced, how you overcame them and about your relocation journey.
English Language for international doctors:
If you’re an international doctor or IMG who aspires to move to the UK, you’ll need to have the necessary English language qualifications to be eligible to work in the UK healthcare system. Specifically, you will need to pass either IELTS or OET with the required score. These are the English language qualifications required for doctors to register with the General Medical Council (GMC). Check out our blog on English Language Requirements for international doctors.
