An exciting opportunity has become available for a Consultant Clinical Oncologist with a specialist interest in Colorectal or Upper Gastrointestinal Oncology to join a well-established NHS Cancer Centre in the West Midlands.
This substantive Consultant position offers the opportunity to work within a highly experienced multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality cancer care across a modern oncology service. The successful candidate will play a key role in the diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of patients, while contributing to service development, education, research and clinical governance.

Main Duties

• Deliver specialist Clinical Oncology services for patients with Colorectal or Upper Gastrointestinal cancers.
• Provide outpatient clinics, radiotherapy planning and systemic anti-cancer treatments.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and collaborative treatment planning.
• Contribute to the Acute Oncology Service and Consultant on-call rota.
• Supervise and support junior doctors and other healthcare professionals.
• Participate in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and service development.
• Support undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and medical education.
• Participate in research activities and clinical trials where appropriate.

 

Person Specific

Requirements

Essential

• Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise.
• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Clinical Oncology (or within six months of obtaining CCT), CESR or equivalent.
• FRCR (Clinical Oncology) or equivalent qualification.
• Experience managing Colorectal and/or Upper Gastrointestinal cancers.
• Commitment to multidisciplinary working, teaching, audit and clinical governance.
• Excellent communication, leadership and teamworking skills.

Desirable

• Higher postgraduate qualification (MD, PhD, MSc or equivalent).
• Experience in clinical research and clinical trials.
• Evidence of service development or quality improvement initiatives.
• Teaching and educational experience.
• Leadership or management experience.
