An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Palliative Medicine Registrar to join a well-established multidisciplinary healthcare service in Ireland.

This fixed-term Registrar post offers the opportunity to work in a patient-centred, compassionate healthcare environment, delivering specialist palliative care services while supporting patients and families with complex symptom management and end-of-life care needs. The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality clinical care across hospital and community settings while working alongside experienced multidisciplinary teams.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

The Palliative Medicine Registrar will:

• Provide specialist assessment and management of patients with life-limiting illnesses
• Deliver high-quality palliative and end-of-life care services
• Support symptom control and complex pain management strategies
• Participate in inpatient, outpatient, and community-based palliative care services
• Assess and manage patients with advanced cancer and non-malignant diseases
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to develop individualised care plans
• Participate in ward rounds, family meetings, and clinical reviews
• Support advance care planning and end-of-life decision-making processes
• Liaise with primary care teams, community services, and specialist teams
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and patient records
• Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement activities
• Contribute to teaching and education of junior medical staff and healthcare professionals
• Ensure safe, compassionate, and evidence-based patient care at all times

Person Specification

Requirements

Essential

• Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent)
• Registration with the Irish Medical Council (IMC)
• Valid and up-to-date ACLS Certification
• Minimum 1 year NHS experience
• Eligibility to work within Ireland
• Evidence of English language competency where applicable (IELTS/OET requirements as per IMC regulations)
• Strong clinical assessment and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
• Commitment to compassionate, patient-centred care
• Commitment to continuing professional development


Desirable

• Previous experience in Palliative Medicine, Oncology, Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, or related specialities
• Previous Irish or UK healthcare experience
• Experience in symptom management and end-of-life care
• Participation in clinical audit and quality improvement projects
• Teaching and supervision experience
• Interest in research and service development
