ENT Surgeon - Special Interest in Otology & Balance

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant ENT Surgeon with a subspecialty interest in Otology & Balance to join a progressive and well-supported ENT department in Greater London.
This role has been developed to support service demand while offering the opportunity to deliver specialist otology care alongside general ENT services. The department is recognised for its focus on innovation, digital pathways, and integrated community working, including tele-otology and virtual clinics.
There is significant scope to further develop subspecialty interests, such as endoscopic ear surgery and balance disorders, with links to wider specialist networks.

Main Duties of the Job
Clinical Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive ENT care across adult and paediatric services
- Provide specialist Otology and balance disorder management
- Conduct outpatient clinics, including:
- Face-to-face clinics
- Virtual / telemedicine clinics
- Participate in MDT discussions, including skull base MDT input
Surgical Responsibilities
- Undertake elective ENT procedures with a focus on:
- Otology surgery
- Balance-related interventions
- Participate in three-session theatre lists
- Opportunity for additional operating sessions (WLI lists)
- Work within modern-day surgery and expanding elective facilities
On-Call & Emergency Work
- Participate in a consultant on-call rota (approx. 1:5)
- Provide emergency ENT support when required
- Manage post-operative complications, including paediatric ENT cases
Teaching, Training & Leadership
- Supervise and support:
- Junior doctors
- Trainees
- Allied health professionals
- Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
- Participate in:
- Clinical audit
- Governance
- Quality improvement programmes
- Support rota planning and departmental development
Service Development
- Contribute to innovation in:
- Tele-otology services
- Digital ENT pathways
- Community ENT integration
- Engage in GP advice and guidance services
- Support pathway redesign and service expansion initiatives
Person specification
Requirements
Essential
- FRCS (ORL-HNS) or equivalent
- Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise
- On the Specialist Register (or within 6 months of CCT)
- Minimum 1 year NHS experience
- Subspecialty training in Otology
- Broad experience in general ENT practice
- Understanding of clinical governance and audit
Desirable
- Post-CCT fellowship in Otology or Balance
- Higher degree (MD, PhD, MSc or equivalent)
- Experience in service development or pathway redesign
- Publications or research activity
- Experience in quality improvement and audits
Skills & Attributes
- Strong clinical and surgical expertise in ENT and Otology
- Excellent communication and MDT collaboration skills
- Ability to manage complex clinical cases
- Commitment to innovation and continuous improvement
