An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated Consultant in Stroke Medicine to join a leading healthcare provider in the West Midlands. This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to one of the UK’s most advanced stroke services while maintaining an interest in a parent speciality such as General Medicine, Neurology, Geriatric Medicine, or Acute Medicine if desired.

With a strong reputation as a regional tertiary centre, the Trust delivers specialist services across the West Midlands, including trauma, cancer, organ transplantation, and advanced stroke care.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality clinical care for stroke patients through shared ward round duties on the Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU).
- Participate in the on-call rota for thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy.
- Deliver specialist outpatient and inpatient stroke management, working closely with multidisciplinary teams.
- Lead and participate in audit, quality improvement, and clinical governance activities.
- Support departmental research initiatives and apply evidence-based medicine to clinical practice.
- Supervise and mentor stroke nurse specialists, trainees, and medical students.
- Contribute to the continuous development and delivery of the stroke service.
- Maintain clinical documentation and support effective communication across teams and services.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential:
- Complete GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register (or within six months of CCT at the time of interview)
- MRCP or equivalent qualification
- Minimum 1 year of NHS experience
Desirable:
- Evidence of ongoing Continuing Medical Education (CME) and professional development
Experience
Essential:
- Clinical training equivalent to UK CCT in General & Geriatric Medicine, Neurology, or Acute Medicine
- Proven expertise in Stroke Medicine, including thrombolysis and thrombectomy
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients
- Experience with audit, clinical governance, and service improvement
Desirable:
- Experience in research, publications in peer-reviewed journals, or involvement in teaching programmes
