Consultant Respiratory
Apply nowWe are inviting applications for a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine to join an expanding and forward-thinking Respiratory department within the Yorkshire and Humber region. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a well-established service while developing a subspecialty interest that complements the existing team.
The department provides a comprehensive range of respiratory services, including severe asthma, tuberculosis (TB), lung cancer, long COVID, sleep and NIV, and cystic fibrosis clinics. Work is also underway to launch a Lung Cancer Screening Programme and an integrated breathlessness diagnostic pathway in collaboration with primary and secondary care partners.
We are particularly keen to hear from consultants with interests in interstitial lung disease, bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, sleep and NIV, or respiratory failure. However, all respiratory subspecialty interests will be supported.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a high-quality, evidence-based respiratory service to both inpatients and outpatients.
- Participate in the General Medical on-call rota, with plans to develop a dedicated Respiratory on-call rota in the future.
- Deliver clinical care in line with GMC standards and Trust policies.
- Collaborate with a diverse multidisciplinary team to enhance inpatient and outpatient services.
- Supervise and support junior medical staff, including speciality trainees and resident doctors.
- Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching through links with Hull York Medical School (HYMS).
- Engage in clinical governance, audit, and service development activities.
- Support departmental research and maintain awareness of developments in respiratory medicine.
- Participate in the Consultant Peer Support Scheme and annual appraisal process.
Essential Requirements
- Complete GMC registration with a valid licence to practise.
- Medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent).
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Respiratory Medicine or within six months of obtaining CCT/CESR at the time of interview.
- Demonstrable experience and expertise in Respiratory Medicine.
- Commitment to continuing medical education, clinical governance, and audit.
- Experience in teaching and supervising medical trainees.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable Attributes
- Previous NHS experience in Respiratory Medicine.
- Higher degree (MD or equivalent) or evidence of relevant research involvement.
- Proven track record in clinical leadership or service improvement.
- Experience supervising trainees within a recognised training programme.

- Contract type: Substantive, full-time (part-time and job share applications are welcome).
