An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant ENT Surgeon with a specialist interest in Head & Neck Surgery to join a busy and expanding department in Greater London.

This is a fixed-term locum role for one year (10 PAs), with the potential for conversion to a substantive consultant position through competitive interview within that period.

The role is generalist in scope, with specialist expertise expected in:

• Head & Neck Surgery
• Surgical management of common ENT conditions in children
• Rhinology and Otology
• Independence in procedures such as endoscopic sinus surgery, mastoidectomy, and thyroidectomy

You will be joining a supportive multidisciplinary team of consultants, associate specialists, specialty doctors, SHOs, and specialist nursing staff. The department is undergoing growth and development, with increasing referrals and service expansion, making this an excellent time to join.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical

• Provide high-quality clinical ENT services to patients.
• Deliver care in line with the agreed Job Plan (clinics, theatre, on-call, admin time).
• Contribute to Head & Neck Cancer diagnostic services in collaboration with regional tertiary centres.

Teaching & Training

• Supervise and train junior doctors, SHOs, registrars, and medical students.
• Participate in work-based assessments and support staff development.
• Develop teaching initiatives for nurses and other healthcare professionals.

Research & Innovation

• Engage in departmental research activities and audits.
• Contribute to quality improvement projects within the ENT service.
• Publish and present findings where applicable.

Management & Administration

• Actively participate in the day-to-day running of ENT services.
• Support governance, clinical audits, and service development initiatives.
• Ensure timely correspondence and documentation for patient care.

Person Specification

Essential

• Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practise
• On the GMC Specialist Register, or within 6 months of CCT at interview date (CCT/CESR/European Rights)
• Appropriate higher ENT qualification
• Broad experience across general otolaryngology
• Up-to-date knowledge of the NHS reforms, health & safety, and clinical governance
• Experience in clinical audit, quality improvement, and postgraduate education
• Proven teaching and supervision skills
• Commitment to continuous professional development

Desirable

• Fellowship in specialised surgery
• Publications in ENT research
• Experience as a Clinical/Educational Supervisor (or evidence towards accreditation)
• Strong track record in undergraduate teaching and academic contributions
